| 1. Hopefully you will have your
Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin (MSO) for your
boat This is the certificate that says that somebody
actually made your boat. It will have the manufacturer’s name and
it will have the Hull ID Number (HIN) which is usually located on
the aft (rear) portion of your boat. When
purchased from a boat dealer - this
paper will have to be signed by a Notary
2.
The next is the Application
for the Certificate of Title. This describes your boat
and tells how much you paid for your boat so that the people at
the Tag agency can determine how much you owe for your excise tax.
3.
Finally there is a
Boat Inspection form.
This is for Serial Number Confirmation of your boat.
This also has to be notarized
|
The
Notarization of
all of the paperwork
should have already been done
by the dealer
where you bought your boat |
4.
Finally, you take all of this info to a tag Agency where they figure
up how much you owe the state
5.
The Tag Agency will then issue you a title and assign you a registration number
& decal for you boat
Both
have to be affixed to the side of your boat
The
rules governing the application of decals are included on the back
of the state decal. |
Now If you DON'T HAVE a
Manufacturer’s Statement
of Origin (MSO) for your boat
Then you must......
1. Contact a local tag agency and write an affidavit
on how and where you acquired your boat and they will
then send your affidavit to the
Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) of
the Oklahoma Tax Commission at the State Capitol for approval.
- The MVD will review the documents and will issue the applicant written
instructions (Form 717) to be provided to the DPS.
- On Form 717 there will be a
1- 800 Phone Number for you to call to schedule an inspection of
your boat by the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety.
- The DPS will inspect your boat and will complete a form to be submitted,
along with the other documents (including a value of your boat),
to a motor license agent or MVD for issuance of a title and
registration.
|
You will pay excise tax on the value of
your boat
as
determined by
the DPS |
- A copy of the Certificate of Registration must be
carried with the boat when in operation.
It will take at least a week for the tag agency to hear back on your
affidavit
The
rules governing the application of decals are included on the back
of the state decal.
|
IMPORTANT
If your boat is homemade
or is so old that it does not have a
Hull Identification Number (HIN)
Then a HIN Number
will be
assigned by the
Department of Public Safety (DPS)
Upon
inspection of your boat |
