An Introduction to Storm Observation and Reporting

Storm Spotter Training Class
by National Weather Service - Norman, Oklahoma

Here is a table of the Storm Spotter Training for Oklahoma
and western north Texas for the 2008 season.
The spotter training schedule is available
in an
Adobe PDF file or a Calendar format

All spotters talks will be presented in January, February, and March. We do not provide spotter training after the end of March due to increased chances for severe weather.

Meteorologists from the National Weather Service provide the free training at the invitation of a city or county emergency manager. The training lasts about 2 1/2 hours and includes instruction on how to safely observe severe storms, how to identify important features, and how to make accurate and timely reports.

In our area, storm spotters are a resource of each local community, and work with local emergency management officials to help protect their community from dangerous storms.

The National Weather Service
does not recruit storm spotters!

If you would like to be a storm spotter
in your local community

more advanced training in first aid could be:

Leap Year Day
2008

Lets Meet and Celebrate
the rare Leap Year Day
on Friday February 29th,
the last time Feb. 29th was here on a Friday was 1980

Where were you in 1980?

If you have an old picture of you from 1980 bring it, and we can enjoy a look back at where we were in 1980 it will be fun!

Why celebrate LEAP year this year ????

Well, lets face it ... the next time LEAP year will appear again
(on a Friday) is 2036 and that's a long time away!

So lets celebrate this one before it is gone.

If you want to come celebrate the LEAP YEAR event, Terry and I, and other celebrators will be at the OLD CHICAGO Bar and Restaurant located off of I-40 and across from Tinker AFB. We will be meeting there in the bar after work 5pm-??
